"The Hopper Prize is now accepting entries for our Spring 2022 artist grants. The Hopper Prize is a grant-making institution and digital archiving platform offering a series of individual artist grants on a bi-annual basis totaling $22,000.00 USD. We accept submissions for grants through a bi-annual open call. Each grant cycle is juried by a new team of contemporary curators who select grant winners on the basis of artistic excellence and the promise of future potential. "Entries are now open for the 2022 edition of the international UNPUBLISHED PHOTO contest. Young photographers born between 1986 and 2004 have the chance until 10th April to submit their portfolios. The contest is promoted by the Fondazione culture e musei and MUSEC Lugano, in collaboration with the 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS gallery in Milan and the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti in Venice. Unpublished Photo is a contest aimed at young contemporary photographers between the ages of 18 and 36. Its aim is to promote and enhance the photographic art form through an initiative that seeks to support creativity without limits, for this reason, the contest does not impose any particular theme and welcomes works made using any technique. Initiated in 2018 and now in its fourth edition, the contest attracts a growing number of young artists from all over the world every year. The initiative was launched initially by the 29 ARTS IN PROGRESS Gallery and was then embraced in 2020 by the Fondazione culture e musei and MUSEC in Lugano, with the aim of strengthening cross-border collaboration and supporting the promotion of young artists' work. A jury composed of major personalities from the world of culture and photography will select four finalists from the international photographic scene. Thanks to the partnership of the De Pietri Artphilein Foundation, the UP22 contest is able to award a cash prize of 2,000 swiss francs to the first prizewinner, 1,500 swiss francs to the second prizewinner and 1,000 swiss francs each to the third and fourth finalists. A selection of UP22's works will be published in an elegant photographic booklet that will further enrich the project. In addition, Artphilein Editions, will also produce and publish an entirely dedicated, fine limited edition catalogue of the one of the young finalists and the overall project. As in 2020 and 2021, this year MUSEC will present the works of the finalists to the public in a temporary exhibition from 20th October 2022 to 12th February 2023 at its Villa Malpensata venue in Lugano. The exhibition is an opportunity to attract collectors and photography enthusiasts and to allow the public to discover new trends and expressive languages of the contemporary scene. At the end of the exhibition in Lugano, the works exhibited will become part of the MUSEC collections, thus enriching a photographic heritage that now counts over 40,000 works from the mid-nineteenth century to the present day. "The old saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” seems to suggest that a photograph transcends language, but words have been a key part of many important photographers’ work—from the billboards and signs in many Walker Evans’ photos to Lee Friedlander’s 2019 book, Signs, for example. The interplay of language and image can create a vivid sense of tension, irony, or poignance. The size and shapes of a font are visual aspects that can carry as much weight as any other aspect in the frame. Praxis Gallery presents photographic art that includes written language as a fundamental aspect of the composition, including text in the form of signs or fragments of signs, handwriting scrawled over the photo, graffiti and palimpsests, just to name a few iterations of the theme. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. JUROR | DALLAS CROW Dallas Crow is a photographer, teacher and writer living in St. Paul, Minnesota. As a high school English teacher for over twenty years, Dallas Crow co-teaches a course at Breck School with an art teacher in which students combine language and images. His own poetry, fiction, and nonfiction have been published in numerous periodicals, anthologies, and in the sidewalks of St. Paul. His chapbook, Small, Imperfect Paradise, was published by Parallel Press at the University of Wisconsin. His photographs have appeared in galleries in Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, Oregon, South Carolina, Vermont, Halifax (Canada), and Athens (Greece) and on the covers of multiple books and magazines. In addition, his solo exhibit of photographs from the 49th parallel, "The Other Border," was mounted at Praxis Gallery in Minneapolis in the fall of 2018. This is our second International Portrait Photographer of the Year Award. "In times of turmoil we often turn to nature for solace and centering. Whether bringing light and focus to what we are losing or celebrating rebirth, from broad landscapes to close up or microscopic forms….. "The cultural association dotART, based in Trieste, Italy, is organising the 13th edition of URBAN Photo Awards contest. The contest is open to everybody and organised into 3 sections: Single Photos (4 thematic areas: Streets, People, Spaces, Creative),Projects & Portfolios and URBAN Book Award. Contestants can participate in more than one section at the same time. The general theme of the contest is Urban Life: Urban Photography. "In its 9th edition, BFOTO Festival stages the exhibition programme EMERGENTES to support artists and diffuse their projects. Among activities the festival hosts, the programme provides a perspective of the photographic scene exposing the selected projects. Idén is meghirdette bihari fotóriporterek számára kiírt pályázatát a nagyváradi székhelyű Euro Foto Art Nemzetközi Egyesület a debreceni Partium Házzal közösen, a bukaresti Summit Agro Kft. támogatásával. A versenyre Bihar és Hajdú-Bihar megye tizennégy fotóriportere küldte be tíz képből álló kollekcióját, melyek közül a zsűri 72 alkotást válogatott be a Bihor – Hajdú-Bihar Eurorégió fotóriportereinek kiállítására. „Ezelőtt hét évvel álmodtam meg a bihari fotóriporterek kiállításának megszervezését. A cél az volt, hogy közös kiállítást szervezzünk, illetve a két megyében lévő fotóriporterek megismerjék egymást. Egy olyan tárlatot, amely az elmúlt év eseményeit mutatja be és a Bihor – Hajdú-Bihar eurorégió több városában is megnyissunk” – mondta el az eseményen Tóth István, a nemzetközileg ismert és elismert fotóművész, a Nagyváradi Fotográfusok „Tavirózsa” Klubja, illetve az „Euro Foto Art” Nemzetközi Szövetség elnöke, a pályázat ötletgazdája. A Bihari fotóriporterek tárlata márciusban Debrecenbe költözik, ahol a Partium Házban lesz megtekinthető március 15-től. Kipattant a fejünkből és közösen megmutatjuk, hogy ha elhatároztuk, akkor lehet cselekedni! Vagyis fotósok egy csoportja összefogott a Nordix stúdióval, hogy önzetlenül adjon. Március hónapban 21-en egy, a Nordix stúdióban megtartott fotózásunkból befolyt teljes összeget az Igazgyöngy Alapítványnak ajánljuk fel. A családi, páros, stb mókákra itt, a "beszélgetések" fül alatt tudsz jelentkezni. Az igényeitekre és az adott fotós szokásaira szabott fotózásban a közös a 45 perces session, minden mást a fotósoddal fogsz tudni megbeszélni, figyeld, hogy milyen felajánlásokat tesz! A Nordix együttműködő felajánlásával a végső árba be is építettük a stúdióbérlést az egyszerűség kedvéért, vagyis a termek bérlete is "megy a közösbe", az külön költségként már nem jelenik meg számotokra, más kiadással nem kell számolnotok. Te is saját zsebből oldod meg a stúdió bérlést, hogy többet tudjál gyakorolni, de még így se kapsz elegendő segítséget, nem érzed biztosnak a tudásodat, jó lenne valakitől kérdezni is? Mi segítünk! Ezt a workshopot Neked találtuk ki, hiszen tisztában vagyunk a gyakorlás fontosságával és tudjuk, hogy csakis biztos alapokra lehet építkezni. Igyekeztünk minden tudásunkat összeszedni és könnyen megtanulhatóvá tenni, nem csak egy prezentációt fogunk felolvasni Neked, de lehetőséged lesz kipróbálni magad, annyit kérdezni, amennyit csak szeretnél. Fotós kattintgatásra hívlak Gántra. Opciósan erdő és mező lesz gazdagon, tervezet, hogy délután megnézzük a bányának azt a hátsó részét, ahol még nem jártunk. Talán a fák is kellőképpen kopasztok lesznek, hogy a vörös/narancs szín legyen az uralkodó. Kék óráig keresünk valami jó kilátást amit érdemes olyan fényekben fotózni, naplementében folytatjuk, majd nekilátunk a 2. felvonásnak, ha felhőtlen az idő akkor csillagjárást fotózunk, ha felhős akkor timelapse videó lehet opciós, vagy csak holdfénynél kiexponáljuk a tájat. Terveim szerint én kint töltöm a teljes éjszakát, aki marad az velem tart, Este eszünk egy isntant levest, pattitunk pár limonádét, vagy sütünk kolbászt, utána sátorban, függőágyban, kocsiban, vagy csak fűben elheveredve megvárjuk a napfelkeltét, reggelire szintén instant leves és indulunk hazafelé. Éjszakai égbolthoz van egy "bevált" helyünk (fejléc képe ott készült), ha jobbat nem találunk akkor oda térünk vissza. Ez időszakosan zárt területen van, kocsival vagy 30 méterre lehet megközelíteni vagy ha sorompóval zárják akkor kb. 1 kilométer gyaloglással jár. Szóval minimum délutános, de inkább egész estés programmal érdemes számolni, mindenkinek vérmérséklete szerint.
