The Foundwork Artist Prize is an annual juried grant that we award to recognize outstanding practices by emerging and mid-career artists working in any media. The Prize is open to artists worldwide with limited exceptions and our selection process takes place each fall. To be considered for the 2022 Prize, artists will need to maintain a published profile on Foundwork, with at least six artworks and an artist statement published on their profile page, throughout this year's selection period: 5:00 pm PT, September 26 – 5:00 pm PT, December 31, 2022. Our 2022 jury is composed of dynamic curators, gallerists, art fair directors, organization founders, and artists based in Berlin, Los Angeles, London, and New York. Our warmest thanks and welcome to these inspiring colleagues. Prizes: This year, one honoree will receive an unrestricted $10,000 grant and studio visits with our distinguished jurors whom you can read about below. The Noorderlicht International Photo Festival 2023 takes place from 26 August to 26 November 2023 at various locations, primarily in the Dutch provinces of Groningen and Friesland. The theme REGENERATE will explore the increasing pressure of immense global challenges and the effect of these on our living together. The festival gives voice to artists who express this feeling of urgency and share stories of hope and a fresh start. With the photographic glance as a starting point, the festival focuses on the entire spectrum of the image, both analogue and digital: from computer-generated imagery to virtual, mixed and augmented reality, installations and projections. This range fits the pluriform nature of contemporary visual culture. We are well into the 21st century and it is increasingly clear that this is a period of dramatic change, wherein we are seeing the emergence of different systems and structures around us. The concept of work is changing, identity boundaries are moving, biodiversity is declining in the midst of a climate crisis, and political landscapes are being redrawn. We communicate online with everyone and share opinions about everything, meanwhile we lose touch with the natural world of which we are an inseparable part. Despite the wealth and technology available in the world today, millions of people remain in poverty. Impactful events like the pandemic and climate change appear to amplify existing racial, gender and wealth inequalities. With REGENERATE as the theme, the 2023 edition of the festival brings together works exploring the transformations our modern societies face. To be regenerated is to be restored and to reforge the relationships with ourselves and others, our direct surroundings, and the world we are living in. It is about working toward the overall betterment of ourselves and our society. In today’s world many people feel a sense of disconnection. Regeneration means seeing oneself and the world we are living in as built around reciprocal relationships that are beneficial to all. A rebalanced worldview means that humans (including their technological accomplishments) and other living beings rely on one another in the world’s ecosystems, for their health, wellbeing and existence. By exhibiting projects that address new ways of thinking and facilitating open discussions about them, the 2023 festival edition aims to freely ask us questions about where we want to go and how to get there. About the times that we are living in and a time that has yet to arrive. Changing relationships with the natural world, with society at large and with ourselves will all be addressed in REGENERATE. The Art Award of the Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler Memorial Foundation in Rockenhausen (Palatinate) will be offered in 2022 for works on paper. The first step is to submit photographs of a maximum of 3 works by the artists, the quality of which allows an assessment of the works presented. Photos, conventionally on paper, may not exceed 24 x 30 cm including mounts. If 3 works are submitted, the jury may make a selection in each case. Digital data carriers will not be accepted. The original dimensions of the works must be stated. Multi-part works may not exceed 200 x 200 cm each. The winners will be selected in a multi-stage process by a jury of experts composed as follows: * Dr. Britta E. Independent & Image Art Space (Chongqing, China) presents an online exhibition open call with the theme of “Abstract Art with New Media”. Adolph Gottlieb, an American abstract expressionist painter, sculptor, and printmaker, said, “The role of the artist, of course, has always been that of image-maker. The most perceptive photographers can make compelling pictures out of uninteresting moments. - Alex Tehrani – French novelist Georges Perec declared that we should found “an anthropology of the ordinary” as revolt against cultural and mass media exploitation of the exotic - the relentless parade of trauma elevated above the routine of everyday events. Perec’s revolt against the frenzy of trauma (the shameful, the voyeuristic and the spectacular) was to excessively document the ordinary in daily life, meticulously accounting for everything and anything in one’s immediate surroundings in an active attempt to uncover the unimportant and the insignificant. Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that explores the in-between moments of life and endeavors to notice the unnoticeable, the mundane, the banal and anti-climactic. "In giving value to the ordinary we, in turn, begin to value the space of our own identity and everyday ‘normal’ experience that lies outside of commodified and predefined trajectories of trauma exploitation. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission. FFP filmes alkotótábor A Nemzeti Filmintézet Fast Forward Programjának alkotótábora augusztus végén új helyszínen, Alsóbogáton. Forgass, beszélgess, alkoss hozzád hasonló fiatalokkal az FFP csapatának szervezésében! A Fast Forward Program alkotótáborának célja, hogy a filmes szakma iránt érdeklődő, ambiciózus, 18–35 éves fiatalok találkozhassanak, és közösen alkothassanak. A nyári alkotótábor Budapesttől távol, egy különleges környezetben várja a filmes szakma iránt érdeklődő fiatalokat. A tíz nap alatt a résztvevők kiscsoportokban dolgoznak, valamint előadásokon, workshopokon és közös programokon vesznek részt. A tábor alkotófolyamatát mentorok és vendégelőadók segítik. Házvezetés a Mai Manó Házban a fotográfia világnapja alkalmából Romoda Klárával 2022. augusztus 19. 18.00 „A diadalmaskodó új szemlélet - a megérett technikai lehetőségek birtokában - hívta életre 1839-ben a fényképi rögzítést, mint az akkori legalkalmasabb eszközt a valóság objektív képi tükrözésére. A fiatal technika, a természettudomány a realisztikus művészetszemlélettel egyetemben megteremtette a tárgyi világ mechanikusan egzakt ábrázolásának lehetőségét.” (Tőry Klára) Niépce (aki a világ legelső fotográfiáját készítette), és Daguerre 1829-ben partneri szerződést kötöttek, mindketten sokat várva a közös munkától, ami viszont sajnos nem tartott sokáig, mert Niépce 1833-ban meghalt, Daguerre pedig az átvett tudás birtokában egyedül kezdett el ideális fényérzékeny anyag után kutatni, de erre 1837-ig várnia kellett. Ekkor a jódgőzzel kezelt, ezüstözött rézlemezen a keletkező ezüstjodidból lappangó kép alakult ki, melyet melegített higanygőzök segítségével tett láthatóvá. Arago, fizikus és csillagász, valamint francia képviselő nagy érdeklődést mutatott a felfedezés iránt. Daguerre bemutatta neki találmányát, ő pedig 1839. január 7-én bejelentette a Francia Akadémián és megvételre ajánlotta a szabadalmat a kormánynak. Arago ugyanez év augusztus 19-én a Tudományos és Képzőművészeti Akadémia együttes ülésén hihetetlen nemzetközi érdeklődés közepette, a vegyi eljárást részletezve ismertette a dagerrotípia készítését. A kormány élt is ezzel a lehetőséggel, és életjáradékot fizetett, évi 6000 frankot Daguerrenek, és 4000-et pedig Niépce örökösének, majd a felfedezést ugyanezen a napon, 1839. augusztus 19-én a világnak ajándékozta, hogy bárki szabadon foglalkozhasson a fényképezéssel. Ezen a napon a fényképészet megszületését ünnepli a világ. Az évforduló alkalmából Romoda Klára, a Mai Manó Ház egykori munkatársa ad betekintést, a magyar fotográfia, és Budapest leghíresebb műteremházába. A vezetés során az épület múltjába, jelenébe, valamint névadójának életébe. A korlátozott férőhely miatt az eseményen való részvétel előzetes regisztrációhoz kötött.
