Ata Kandó, who had been living in the Netherlands for several years, travelled to the Austrian-Hungarian border after the 1956 revolution to report on the crowds fleeing the country. Her sensitive portraits, mainly of children, are an important documentation of the experiences of the refugees who left their homeland behind. He was accompanied on his journey by his Dutch photographer friend Violette Cornelius, with whom she put together an album of their photographs taken there. The so-called "untitled RED BOOK" sold out in two months and all the proceeds from the copies sold were donated to help families in need. Their work is extremely important in remembering the 1956 revolution and documenting the plight of Hungarian refugees at the time.
